The Tercentenary Celebration dinner and entertainment at HMS Drake in Plymouth was a great success.

The sun was shining as the evening commenced at 7pm when 400 Devonshire Freemasons and their wives and partners mover on the Terrace to watch the HMS Drake Marine Band Beat Retreat. In the words of Provincial Grand Master Ian Kingsbury “it made us all proud to be British”.

The evening continued with a splendid dinner in the Senior Rates Mess where the Tercentenary Atmosphere of celebration was set off in the company of HM Deputy Lieutenant for Devonshire and the Mess President.

During his after dinner speech the PGM thanked our honoured guests for their company and HMS Drake for affording us such a warm welcome. He also thanked the organising committee Phil Ratcliff, Vaughan Harris, Shaun Crannis, Colin McKenna, John Kingdom, Jack Parnell and John Smerdon for all their hard work. There was a presentation of flowers to the ladies on the top table and a cheque to the Mess President. The PGM concluded by saying how proud he was of all the Brethren and their wonderful partners for not only supporting this function, but for all they do for the Province and it’s wider community.

We then moved into the Ballroom where we were entertained by two singers and a disco which led many in the room to dance on past midnight.

This was the first of several major events planned in Devonshire to celebrate the Tercentenary. The formula of good food, good company and good entertainment certainly induced a great atmosphere of true celebration.
