W. Bro Tony Passmore was born in Stonehouse Maternity Hospital on 29th October 1940. He went to Oreston Primary School and then on to Plymstock Secondary School, and left school in 1955 and went to work for Plymouth City Transport and served his apprenticeship as a fitter and turner. Tony left Milehouse in 1970 and went to work in Plymouth Dockyard where he worked for 18 years on Frigates and Submarines, then in 1988 went to work for Marine Projects, now Princess Yachts, until retiring in 2005.
He was initiated into Sir Walter Raleigh Lodge on 17th January 1962, his father was the Junior Deacon. and took him through his initiation, the Senior Deacon , Stafford Williams, let his father take him through his 2nd Degree and then his father was the Senior Deacon for his 3rd Degree. He then worked his way up through all the various Offices and was Master of the Lodge( 1979) then had Provincial Honours in 1988 and is currently PPrJGW.
On 24th July 1962 he joined the Fidelity Huyshe Lodge No 91 of Mark Master Masons and in the November Installation was one of the 12 appointed Stewards. He worked his way up through the Offices and became Master in November 1976, Had his first Provincial Appointment as Provisional Grand Inner Guard in 1981, the following year became P.Pr.G.J.D. then, P.Pr.G.S.O. in 1993 and then finally to P.Pr.G.J.W. Celebrated 50years in MMM in 2012. He was promoted to PAGStdBr in June 2016, has served as Lodge D.C. on two occasions. Has been up to Grand Lodge on many occasions when W.Bro. Len Jackman used to run coach trips to London.
He married Yvonne in 1963 at Oreston Methodist Chapel and went to Jersey on honeymoon. Their son Paul was born in May 1967 and he joined the Craft and the Mark but has since taken his clearance from the Craft for personal reasons. Paul is progressing well in the Mark but although working from Basingstoke still finds the time to attend as many meetings as he can.
Tony and Yvonne have had lots of holidays in Spain and Italy and Cyprus. He met a Brother in Cyprus who invited him to his Lodge so the following year took his Regalia with him and visited the Lord Kitchener Lodge No 3402 in the Dhekelia Garrison. He says that he has had a wonderful time in Freemasonry and has met some very good friends, and is still meeting them now.
Tony said what a wonderful evening he had and thanked V. W. Bro. Nick Ball who he has known for many years, for taking the trouble of coming and presenting him with his 60 Year Certificate it made him feel very honoured and proud.
