In what can only be called an unusual set of circumstances Ian Kingsbury our Provincial Grand Master asked if Michael Penny our Past Provincial Grand Master would be able to gain entry into the offices of Michael StJ. French PAGReg. without his prior knowledge. It was to be the very special occasion of the 50 Years of Service to Freemasonry. The irony doubled because Michael Penny is shortly to become V. Ill. Bro. Inspector General of Devonshire Rose Croix following the retirement of Michael StJ. French after a very commendable 15 years of service to the Order.
The request came about as the Covid19 rules did not allow Ian to travel across the county to make the presentation personally, but Both Michaels reside in Torquay. A devious little plan had been hatched between the PGM, the Provincial Secretary and the PPGM whereby the PGM called Michael French on the phone at his office and whist speaking to him asked him to go into his reception area where he was surprised by the PPGM who then formally presented the Certificate to him having read it out aloud first. This all came as a complete and utter shock to the recipient!
Social distancing and masks were worn throughout the visit except for the photo.
The presentation of the certificate was accompanied by a bottle of Naval strength Plymouth gin as a small token of congratulations and appreciation from the PGM.
In addition a further presentation of a bottle of Champagne was then made to The Past Inspector General by the PPGM in his capacity as Inspector General Designate being a token of congratulations and affection from all the Members of the Antient and Accepted Rite in Devonshire.
