1808 melton team dmba 2018Devon Masonic Bowling Association fielded their veteran team of Rick Purnell, Keith Young, Gordon Marshall and skip Mervyn Benny for the 6th occasion. Sadly, Tommy Thompson had to pull out as he broke his arm just before the games. He is OK and mending well!

Melton Mowbray Bowls Club hosted the games with 24 teams from 16 Provinces each team playing a 4 match round robin for semi-final places. Cool but good weather prevailed except for a short shower in the afternoon. The green was interesting having suffered from the hot summer with some unpredictable patches on most rinks.

No silverware this year, our team was a little out of form on the day drawing against Gloucester A in the last match. The other matches were so close, losing by just 1 shot against Sussex, Somerset and London B.

The winners were the favourites, Gloucester B with Suffolk B runners up.
The 3rd/4th places went to Derbyshire and Suffolk B.

The only trophy we qualified for this year was the wooden spoon but we all had a most enjoyable day meeting up with many of our old bowling friends from other counties.

Besides bowling, the M.A.C.E. event raised money for charity. So far £1500 has been shared between Rainbow Hospice for the Young, and Dove Cottage Day Hospice local Leicestershire charities.

2019 will be hosted by Province of Sussex at the Pavilion Bowling Club, Worthing on Saturday 10th August and for the 10th anniversary back to the 1st venue hosted by London at Herts Bowling Club on Saturday 8th August 2020.

There are many Devon Masons out there who also play bowls. DMBA have regular fixtures both outdoor and indoors throughout the year.
