50 yrs cert bill thomasOn Friday 25th May at Plymouth & District Masters Lodge I had the privilege of presenting W. Bro. Bill Thomas with a 50 Year Long Service Certificate of behalf of the Provincial Grand Master.

Bill was born on 9th March 1946 and was initiated in Lodge of Love and Honour No.75 meeting in Falmouth in Cornwall on 13th May 1968 at the age 22. He was Passed on 8th July 1968 and Raised on 12th August 1968. On 11th November 1972 he became a Founder of St Budoc’s Lodge No. 8445 and became Master of that lodge in 1977.

He moved to Plymouth eventually and joined Western District United Services Lodge No. 2258 on 21st March 1984. A few weeks later on 3rd April 1984 he was exalted into Elliott Chapter. He also became a joining member of Devonian Chapter of First Principals on 3rd April 1995.

On 22nd April 1988, that is 30 years ago, he became a joining member of the Plymouth and District Masters Lodge No.5898 and served as Master in 1998 and Secretary from 1993 to 1996 as well as several other offices over the years including DC and ADC. He was also secretary of WDUS from 1991 to 2006. He then joined Britannia Lodge No. 4099 on 12th January 2008.

In the Holy Royal Arch he was First Principal in Elliott Chapter in 1991and Devonian Chapter of First Principals in 2002.

In the Craft he was appointed as Past Provincial Senior Grand Deacon in 1990 and promoted to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 1998 and the very high office of Active Provincial Senior Grand Warden in 2000. In the Holy Royal Arch he received a promotion to PPrGSN in 2001.

The M.W. The Grand Master HRH Duke of Kent appointed him to the Grand Rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and only a few weeks ago he received a promotion on 25th April at Grand Lodge to the very high rank of Past Junior Grand Deacon. In his spare time he found time to be VGO to no less that 6 lodges, Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, Manadon, Britannia, Bedford, Armada and Victory.

Bill is an outstanding Freemason and a great servant of our Order. He is fully deserving of all the honours he has received.
