wdus collars 001The Western District United Service Lodge No.2258 hosted a special meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge on 15th November 2017 where celebratory first appointments to Provincial Grand Rank were presented.

In celebration of of his 50 years as M W Grand Master, HRH the Duke of Kent allowed our Provincial Grand Master an extra quota of first appointments to Provincial Grand Rank. It was the wish of R. W. Bro Ian Kingsbury that these special appointments be awarded to those Brethren whose hard work behind the scenes to support their lodge and and the Provincial Grand Lodge.

After the lodge was opened the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, W. Bro Mike Doleman, announced the Provincial Grand Master and large number of Provincial Officers waiting to be admitted. Once the procession had been seated the Worshipful Master, W. Bro P R F Lapthorn proffered his gavel to the PGM. R. W. Bro Ian Kingsbury accepted the gavel and responded...

"Thank you Worshipful Master, this is one of those rare occasions when I will accept the gavel and rule over the lodge!"

...and he then proceeded to take the Chair of King Solomon. The Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies was asked to replace the wardens with the Provincial Grand Wardens. The Provincial Team then continued with the ceremony of investing all those who could be present.

It was a very enjoyable ceremony with all of the recipients having enjoyed the recognition of their individual contributions as well as the pride and honour that accompanied the investitures.

The festive board was every bit as enjoyable as the ceremony in the temple. The lodge had arranged a wonderful meal and the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. The PGM thanked The Western District United Service Lodge No.2258 for being such splendid hosts for this special meeting.

There was also some fun during the raffle where an active officer was repaid for a previous prank and ended up winning several boxes of biscuits. If anybody at the meeting didn't know of W. Bro David Wilson before the meeting, they did by the time the raffle finished!

As one of the lucky recipients of a first appointment I am sure I speak on behalf of all those who were honoured this evening by saying...

"We thank the PGM, R. W. Bro Ian Kingsbury and his Executive Team for selecting us to receive the extra collars made available by the M. W. Grand Master, HRH the Duke of Kent. We will wear them with pride."

W. Bro John Smerdon was unable to attend but the lodge did arrange for pictures to be taken. The photos are below and can be clicked on to enlarge.
