St Johns Lodge No 70 Donation to Honeyford Ward Derriford Hospital 14th March 2017 The Lodge was represented by W.Bro Graham Memory (Master of St John 70), W.Bro Andy Fowkes PPrGSwdB. and W.Bro Nic White PPrGSwdB (Almoner) accompanied by Miss Sara Fowkes (Andy’s Daughter) at the presentation of a cheque for £200 to Sister Alison Horn, Ward Sister. The presentation was prompted following a period of treatment received by W.Bro Andy Fowkes and the excellent care he had received over several weeks as a patient on Honeyford Ward, a 29 bedded ward that specialises in Respiratory illnesses. W.Bro Fowkes spoke highly of the experience he had received, commending the staff for their help and support. Sister Horn was delighted to hear the praise as she reflected that sometimes it was hard for the ward to receive the recognition of excellent work done by the care teams. W.Bro Fowkes and W.Bro. Memory spoke of the work of Freemasons in charitable giving as Sister Horn told them that the money was going to be put towards items of equipment for a special room and area they are setting up for the ward where patients relatives and staff can go to when a calm and private place is needed in times of crisis for their loved ones. The room will have facility for short term overnight stays for relatives as well as facility to make refreshments.
