Staff from Exeter Hospiscare received a cheque for £2,757 from Worshipful Brother Chris Yard, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire. This is part of the annual donation made by the Freemasons grand charity which this year is giving nearly £14,000 to seven hospices in Devon. Two hundred and forty five adult and children’s hospices throughout England and Wales will receive a total of over £600,000 this year. Since 1984 the Freemasons Grand Charity have given nearly £12 million in support of hospices.

Computer records show that since 1994 Freemasons Grand Charity along with many local Devonshire lodges have donated an amazing £93,000 to Hospicecare. Exeter Hospiscare helps hundreds of city people living with life limiting illness, providing care and support at home as well as within the hospice for both patients and their families.

The Assistant Provincial Grand Master W. Bro. Chris Yard said when presenting the cheque “The Freemasons in Devon are delighted that the Freemasons Grand Charity have been able to continue to provide vital funding for or local hospices, the care and support they provide for the community is amazing, we are delighted that we are able to show our dedication towards their ever growing need for support within the community”. Hospiscare Chief Executive Glynis Atherton said: “We are delighted to receive this continuing support from the Freemasons and are very grateful that they recognise the vital work we carry out in the city. Receiving regular support like this is essential in helping us maintain our services which this year will cost more than £6m to provide. “
